Just a day after announcing his resignation from the Labour Party in Anambra state, Valentine Ozigbo has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, after APC members in Amesi Ward, Aguata Local Government Area, visited his home.

“The Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation wishes to officially announce that Valentine Ozigbo, a distinguished business leader, philanthropist, and visionary politician, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Africa’s biggest political party,” the statement read.

The campaign organisation explained that “this historic decision was formalised today, Thursday, February 20, 2025, when Mr. Ozigbo completed his registration as a member of the APC at his ward in Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area.”

According to the statement, Mr Ozigbo was received by party executives and stakeholders at the ward and local government levels, where he outlined his vision for a brighter and better state while stressing his commitment to transformational leadership, economic development, and people-centered governance.

Stating that he joined the APC due to his belief in progressive governance, his desire to work alongside forward-thinking leaders, and his determination to champion policies to uplift the people, Mr Ozigbo pledged to contribute significantly to the growth and success of the party.

Amesi Ward APC chairman, Chidi Muokwe, said Mr Ozigbo—who finished second behind Charles Soludo in the last governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, a year after stepping into politics in 2020 following his resignation as president and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc.—represents “the light in the darkness” the state needs.

Godson Anyadike, who spoke on behalf of the party executives in Aguata LGA, expressed delight at receiving him into the party and pledged their cooperation and support, adding that no new member has ever joined with such grace and excitement in the history of the party in Aguata.

Following Mr Ozigbo in defecting from the Labour Party to the APC are Tony Offiah and the party’s secretary in Aguata LGA, Afam Okpalauzuegbu.
