They are Mercy Onuh (31), Benedict Alexander (26), Emmanuel Matthew (19) and Comfort Adejoh (26).

They are standing trial on charges bordering on joint act, criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Okpa Otobha, told the court that the chief security officer of the supermarket, Isaac Haruna, reported the matter at the Dutse Alhaji police station, Abuja, on June 24.

According to the prosecutor, Haruna was notified of the crime by the managing director of the supermarket, Obasi, on June 20.

The prosecutor said Haruna was informed that the defendants, who were all assigned to Lagash Stand, a section of the supermarket, allegedly conspired to misappropriate N2 million.

He alleged that during a police investigation, N14, 700 was recovered from three of the defendants.

He said that the defendants could not give satisfactory accounts of their actions during the interrogation.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 314 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The Senior Magistrate, Evelyn Dara, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N2 million each and two sureties each in like sum.
