Four guards arraigned for alleged negligence, theft

Four security guards, Allu Jafaru, Simon Shieka, Eluma Oyigocho, and Aliyu Usman, on Tuesday appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for alleged negligent conduct and theft.
The prosecuting counsel, Edwin Inegbenoise, told the court that the complainant, Nwoye Franklin, reported the matter at Wuse Zone 3 Police Station on September 1.
Inegbenoise alleged that the defendants were employed to secure the property in a building at the National Mosque, but they allegedly slept off and abandoned their duty post
He added that unknown persons stole armoured rod cables valued at N5 million, adding that the offence contravened sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Helen Akpala, made a bail application for the defendants, citing section 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
