Four men arraigned over alleged theft of electrical cables worth N1.5 million

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, in his ruling, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.

The police on Tuesday arraigned four men before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing of electrical cables worth N1.5 million.

The defendants; Kabiru Dankuare, 40, Aina Biodun, 32, Ademola Adekunle, 35, and Muhammed Saliu, 35, are facing a charge of stealing cables

The police Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants and others at large allegedly committed the offence on January 16 at about 08:00 a.m in Odo Ayedun-Ekiti in the Ikole-Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Oriyomi alleged that the defendants and others at large stole electrical cables belonging to the Ekiti State Government.

He said that the offence contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendants, Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, in his ruling, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until April 21 for hearing.(NAN)
