Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, in a joint operation with hunters, vigilantes and anti-cult volunteers, on Wednesday, killed four suspected kidnappers in Abraka.

Spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, in a statement, said the operation was carried out around 03:00 p.m., following credible intelligence on their activities along the Abraka railway axis.

Mr Edafe said, “During the operation, joint operatives comprising the police, hunters, vigilante and anti cult volunteers engaged the suspected kidnappers and recovered one AK-47 rifle, along with thirteen rounds of live ammunition.

“During the gun duel, four of the suspected kidnappers were shot and later gave up the ghost, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

“During a preliminary investigation, a recently rescued kidnapped victim identified one of the deceased suspects as a leader of the gang that kidnapped him,” the spokesperson further stated.

Praising the courage of operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, admonished them to sustain the tempo, while assuring residents of the command’s commitment to deepening community engagement and sustaining momentum against crime.
