Four suspects arrested in Osun for alleged attempted murder, firearm possession

The police command in Osun State has arrested four suspects over alleged attempted murder and firearm possession in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Ojelabi said the suspects were arrested over alleged conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm, and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
“The arrest followed a petition written and addressed to the commissioner of police concerning the alleged offences,” he said.
He explained that police operatives arrested the four suspects – two male and two female – on Sunday at about 2:00 p.m.
He said during the search conducted at the suspects’ residences, two firearms were recovered.
“One cut-to-size locally made firearm was recovered from the shop of one of the female suspects, while one pump-action firearm was recovered from the residence of the other female suspect,” he said.
Mr Ojelabi said the suspects were in police custody and assisting the police in the ongoing investigation, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend others at large.
In another development, Mr Ojelabi said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the command arrested six suspected members of an unlawful society in Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
He said the suspects were apprehended following information received that some hoodlums invaded the campus with dangerous weapons and injured two students on the school premises.
Mr Ojelabi said that during interrogation, two of the suspects confessed to being members of the ‘Aye Confraternity.’
He said the investigation was ongoing, noting that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
He said the command was committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security.
Mr Ojelabi encouraged residents to continue to provide credible and timely information to the police to curb crime.
