Fraud: Court orders Rep member to forfeit property as Maina’s son absconds to U.S.

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the forfeiture of a property belonging to Sani Dan-Galadima, a federal lawmaker from Zamfara.
Mr. Dan-Galadima, who represents Kaura-Namoda constituency in the House of Representatives had staked the undisclosed property as a bail bond, having stood as surety for Faisal Maina, son of Abdulrasheed Maina, an erstwhile chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team arraigned by the anti-graft EFCC on various counts of money laundering.
Counsel to the commission, Mohammed Abubakar, told the trial judge on Thursday that Mr. Maina’s son had absconded to the United States through the Republic of Niger.
Justice Abang had earlier granted Mr. Maina’s fleeing son a N60 million bail, with a surety in the like sum who must be a serving member of the junior parliament.
The former pension chief, who had himself jumped bail last year, fled Nigeria for several months before his eventual arrest in Niger Republic.
Mr. Maina, the EFCC attorney said, was on the verge of absconding to the U.S. as of the time he was nabbed by security operatives.
