Fraudulent women attempt to swindle governors, impersonate us: NCWS
President of the National Council of Women’s Societies, Laraba Shoda, has warned the public against a group of women posing as NCWS’ executives.
Ms Shoda gave the warning in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
“It has been brought to the notice of the headquarters of NCWS that some women are impersonating as national officers of the council. They call themselves South-West zone and are writing letters to state governments inviting them for programmes in the name of the council,” said the NCWS president. “This is illegal and unconstitutional.”
He added, “The NCWS has only one board of trustees in the country, and we do not have zonal bodies, branches, chapters, wings, or forums. We only have the national executives, headed by the national president; the state branches, headed by state presidents, and the LGA chapters, headed by chapter presidents.”
She, therefore, explained that no other body had the right to use the council’s name, logo or letterhead, to write letters to anyone, organisation, government, private sector, or individual for programmes.
“Such letters that do not originate from duly elected presidents and appropriately signed should be disregarded, unless such letters are in collaboration with the council and duly signed by the national president, state president, or local government president as the case may be,” Ms Shoda further noted.
She also mentioned that past NCWS executives were not permitted to sign any document with official NCWS letterheads at any level.
“NCWS does not operate regional or zonal levels. Anyone doing so is contravening the councils constitution and destroying our unity and peace,” added Ms Shoda.
