The Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr Mohammed Bulama, has canvassed increased support for victims of Maiduguri flood disaster.

Mr Bulama made the call in Maiduguri on Monday while speaking to journalists shortly after leading the management of FRCN on a sympathy visit to Maiduguri.

The DG lauded the prompt response by the federal and various state governments in supporting victims of the disaster.

He observed that the magnitude of the September 10 flood disaster that submerged greater parts of Maiduguri was so enormous that the people required more support.

“I want to commend the UN organisations, international and local NGOs, CSOs, groups and organisations as well as philanthropists for their sustained support to the government and people of Borno.

Mr Bulama said, “However, we are asking for more because the devastation is just unimaginable and there’s a lot of work to be done, there’s a lot of reconstruction to be done.’’.

He commended the resilience shown by the people who were gradually recovering from insurgency, adding that they needed all kinds of support from both national and international communities.

The DG and his team paid a sympathy visit to the Deputy Governor of Borno, Umar Kadafur, where he announced donation of food and non-food items to the flood victims in Maiduguri and Jere local government areas.

He also assured that FRCN would provide its platforms to help Borno government share critical information on the flood disaster towards ensuring timely updates and response efforts.

Responding, Mr Kadafur thanked FRCN and other media for their support in projecting the state and assured the media of sustained collaboration.

Mr Bulama who hails from Maiduguri also had his home and family members’ houses affected by the flood disaster.
