The Federal Road Safety Corps, Akwa Ibom command, says it will partner with the State Medical Service and Ambulance System (AKISEMSAS) to reduce road traffic fatalities and response times in the state.

The Akwa Ibom sector commander, Francis Ajatta, made the remark while receiving the acting state coordinator of AKISEMSAS, Jacob Etiemana in his office in Uyo on Friday.

Mr Ajatta said the collaboration would enhance emergency response and save lives.

He added that the collaboration would enable the command to achieve a 10 per cent reduction in road traffic fatality and injury through focused intervention.

He stressed the need for the establishment of an emergency response centre for information sharing, processing, and dissemination, especially in the areas of road traffic crash information, reporting and management.

Speaking earlier, Mr Etiemana pledged the agency’s readiness to explore potential collaborative opportunities and share ideas on best practices and experiences, training in emergency and medical services.

“The enhanced ambulance system will ultimately improve the healthcare delivery services for crash victims in the state,” he said.

In a related development, Mr Ajatta has solicited the support of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for the seamless prosecution of traffic offenders in the state.

He called for the support while receiving Ime Umofiah, chairman, Uyo branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and other executives on visit to the command.

“The collaborative effort will foster mutual understanding, provide dispute resolution support, advocacy on law reforms for swift justice delivery; share perspectives on road safety laws enforcement; and promote legal education on road use,” Mr Ajatta said.

He emphasised the need for implementation of key technology-driven solutions to enhance service delivery.

The sector commander assured that the collaboration and partnership would yield fruitful results to the benefit of all in the state.
