FRSC seeks traditional leaders’ support for safer roads campaign

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has solicited the support of traditional institutions in the campaign on safer roads and good driving culture among the motoring public.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Olowo of Owo land in Ondo on Sunday in Owo.
The visit was part of the ongoing nationwide monitoring of traffic situations led by the Corps Marshal.
Mr Mohammed said that royal fathers have a lot to do in joining the vision of FRSC to ensure and make the road safe for socio economic activities.
He maintained that the traditional rulers were critical stakeholders for the country to have a good driving culture and appealed for more collaboration in reducing carnage on the highway.
“We want to appreciate your support so far. We are here to thank you.
“We came with the team and critical stakeholders to assist us to know what they know how to do best and be able to create an enabling environment for all.
“We are on the road to appreciate the officers who have been working tirelessly to ensure the road is safe. We want to assure you that we will continue to make the road safer for all,” he said.
The FRSC boss, however, assured that the corps would continue to provide necessary logistics support towards achieving effective traffic control in Ondo.
Responding, the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin – Ogunoye 111, congratulated the corps marshal on his appointment to oversee the affairs of the corps.
The monarch assured that the traditional council of Owo would continue to sensitise the motoring public through town hall meetings and engagement with transport union Leaders.
He solicited for more patrol vehicles and ambulances to ensure smooth vehicular movement of vehicles, describing Owo as critical corridors that link South West and South South as well as the North Central parts of the country.
“A big congratulations to you, Corps Marshal, the Federal Government must have found you worthy. It is heartwarming to see you.
“We want to assure you of our continuous support as we ensure that road traffic crashes are reduced to the barest minimum.
“This is a job well done. This special patrol and monitoring traffic situation is timely especially at this critical time of the year. We will continue to hold you in high esteem,” he said.
The traditional ruler commended the Ondo state sector command for the professional conduct of FRSC personnel and prompt actions during emergencies.
High Chiefs of Owo Kingdom and leaders of neighbouring communities were in attendance to receive the corps marshal and other members on the monitoring exercise in Ondo state.
