FRSC wants special marshals to prioritise personal safety

The Federal Road Safety Corps, on Saturday, urged special marshals to prioritise their personal safety while discharging their duties in Anambra.
The sector commander in Anambra, Bridget Asekhauno, disclosed this at the 2025 Special Marshal Sectoral Workshop held in Awka. It was organised by the FRSC Special Duties and External Relations Special Marshals section.
Ms Asekhauno described special marshals as the largest volunteer force in Africa, adding that their safety remains the top priority for the corps.
She urged them to always operate within approved routes, wear proper identification, and maintain close communication with regular officers and security agencies during field operations.
“Security awareness is essential in today’s environment. We encourage Special Marshals to be alert, avoid confrontations, and promptly report any suspicious activity or threat to your safety,” she said.
Meanwhile, she commended the marshals for their voluntary contributions toward ensuring safer roads in the state.
National coordinator of the special marshals, Adaji Usman, described the workshop as timely. He said that the workshop was properly scheduled at this time, considering the rising spate of insecurity in the country.
“Special Marshals need to be vigilant, understand their operational environment, and use technological tools to enhance situational awareness. Let us also remain disciplined and committed to service and humanity,” he said.
The state coordinator of special marshals, Michael Ogbusa, stated that the workshop aimed to provide valuable insights for improving the field performance and personal safety of the marshals.
“As the volunteer arm of the FRSC, we play a crucial role in public education, traffic control, and community engagement to reduce road crashes and fatalities across Anambra. However, with the increasing insecurity, there is a growing need for Special Marshals to adopt proactive safety measures while on duty.
“This workshop is designed to equip us with updated knowledge on security consciousness, operational discipline, and effective collaboration with regular marshals,” he said.
Mr Ogbusa thanked the FRSC for its continued support and training, expressing optimism that members would remain committed to professionalism and safety while on duty.
