The Federal Road Safety Corps has advised motorists to undertake only essential journeys and to reduce speeding to minimise road crashes during the Easter celebration.

Babatunde Gold, the FRSC Itori unit commander, gave the advice on Thursday in Ota.

Mr Gold said that the advice to motorists had become necessary, especially during the Easter celebration, to prevent unnecessary loss of lives.

He noted that any motorist who was not on the highway during Easter was not likely to be involved in a road crash.

“The FRSC is appealing to motorists to, possibly, reduce their presence on the roads so that mishaps can be prevented.

“Whenever they need to be on the road, they should use it with common sense by not driving against traffic and not competing with other road users,” the unit commander said.

Mr Gold counselled motorists to strictly adhere to all traffic rules and regulations and to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before putting them on the road.

He also urged them to cooperate with FRSC officers, as a special patrol exercise would be conducted to respond to emergencies and check drivers’ excesses.

This, he said, would help to reduce preventable crashes during the festive period and beyond.

The federal government has declared Friday and Monday as Easter holidays.
