Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security.

Mr Fubara gave the assurance on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B Stream II orientation course, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.

The governor was represented by Promise Oguzie, permanent secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

Describing the corps members as an integral part of the state’s development agenda, Mr Fubara urged them to be role models and worthy nation-builders throughout their service year.

The governor said that the state government remained committed to creating an enabling environment for corps members to contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria.

In his remarks, Moses Oleghe, NYSC state coordinator in Rivers, urged corps members to see their deployment to the state as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to national development.

Mr Oleghe charged them to serve with integrity, discipline and the fear of God, particularly when engaged as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff for the 2027 general elections.

He also appealed to the governor to approve funds for the immediate construction of separate 1,000-bed hostels for male and female corps members at the orientation camp.

A total of 3,584 corps members, comprising 1,421 males and 2,163 females, were sworn in during the ceremony.

The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Rivers, Justice Chibuzor Amadi, represented by Justice Godspower Aguma.
