Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its contributions to rural healthcare delivery through its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).
Mr Fubara made the remark during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members deployed to the state in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State on Friday.
He described the initiative as a veritable intervention in community healthcare delivery services, positively impacting the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Mr Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and accompanied by the chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Dagogo Wokoma, expressed delight over the increasing number of corps members posted to the state.
He said the development reflected the growing confidence of parents and citizens in the peace, progress, and good governance being fostered by his administration.
Mr Fubara assured the corps members that his administration would remain committed to improving the welfare of graduate youths while preparing them for leadership roles.
He urged them to maximise the opportunities provided during the orientation course to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Earlier, the NYSC State coordinator in Rivers State, Moses Oleghe, said the corps members were eager and committed to making meaningful contributions to nation-building.
Mr Oleghe said the NYSC management had consistently exposed corps members to practical and life-changing experiences to facilitate their transition from dependency to self-reliance.
He commended the state government for its continued support for the scheme and appealed for the construction of a 1,000-bed hostel accommodation for corps members at the orientation camp.
‘’The facility will address accommodation challenges arising from the increasing number of corps members deployed to the state,” he said.
A total of 3,665 corps members, comprising 1,328 males and 2,337 females, took the Oath of Allegiance administered by Justice Florence Fiberesima, who represented the chief judge of the state, Justice Chibuzor Amadi.
