FUD expels 11 students, rusticates 23 for examination malpractice

According to the school, the 23 rusticated students would miss two academic semesters.

The Senate of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) has expelled 11 students and rusticated 23 others for their involvement in examination malpractice.

The director of public affairs, FUD, Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Dutse.

Mr Yahaya-Bello said that the decision was taken at the university’s 76th Regular Senate Meeting held on July 30, after consideration of the 18th Report of the Senate Committee on Examinations and Related Misconduct.

He said that the Senate approved the recommendations of the committee after reviewing cases involving students from various faculties and departments.

According to him, the sanctions were imposed in line with the university’s regulations governing examinations and students’ conduct.

He said that the 23 rusticated students would miss two academic semesters, while three students received written warning letters.

Mr Yahaya-Bello said that one student was exonerated after the allegation against him was not established by the committee.

“The rusticated students are to remain out of the university for the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session and the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic session.

“They are expected to resume their studies in the second semester of the 2026/2027 academic session,” he said.

Mr Yahaya-Bello said the affected students were drawn from faculties including computing, science, education, management sciences, agriculture and social sciences.

He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining academic integrity and enforcing disciplinary measures against examination malpractice.

“The university remains committed to upholding discipline, transparency and high academic standards.

“Examination malpractice will continue to attract appropriate sanctions, in accordance with the institution’s rules and regulations,” the director said.

According to him, students are expected to conduct themselves responsibly and comply fully with examination guidelines to protect the integrity and credibility of the university’s certificates.
