Fulani herders have continued to openly graze their cattle within the Abuja city centre, defying FCT minister Nyesom Wike’s warning.

Herds of cattle were seen disrupting traffic flow at Mobil Junction along Bannex/Gwarimpa Expressway on Saturday evening.

A video recorded by Peoples Gazette at about 6:47 p.m. showed hundreds of cattle crossing the road.

This comes a few weeks after Mr Wike warned Fulani herders to stop cattle grazing in the city centre.

“We cannot allow cows inside the city. It can be outside the city. That is the way it should be done,” Mr Wike said upon his assumption of office on August 21.

“Because the grasses are outside the city. The grasses are not here. These are grasses we planted to beautify the city. The ones in the area councils are the ones that can eat,” the minister added.

The Gazette had first reported how Fulani herders returned to grazing their cows close to the Central Bank of Nigeria on August 27, barely a week after Mr Wike warned against grazing in the city centre.

Saturday’s comes as another evidence of Fulani herders  disregarding warnings, grazing their cattle freely in the city centre

Mr Wike was applauded for warning Fulani herders to stop grazing in the city centre. But it appears his warning and threats are of no effect as herders continue to graze their cattle in the city centre.
