Galadima FC secure quarter-final spot with 3-0 win over Stalwart

Galadima FC on Monday defeated Stalwart FC of Durumi 3-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2026 FCT President Federation Cup.
The competition, which began on March 30, is being held at the Area 3 Football Pitch in Abuja.
Both teams started cautiously, with no clear-cut chances in the opening minutes, as Stalwart FC struggled to find their rhythm.
In the 17th minute, Galadima’s Precious Igwilo was cautioned for a reckless challenge, but Stalwart failed to capitalise on the resulting free kick.
Galadima broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through Tawus Shupel, who finished a well-worked team move initiated by Micheal Opaleye.
Stalwart responded with increased attacking efforts but lacked precision in front of the goal.
Samson Joshua doubled Galadima’s lead in the 36th minute with a simple finish after sustained pressure, as the first half ended 2-0.
On resumption, Galadima extended their lead in the 50th minute when Opaleye found the net to make it 3-0.
Stalwart FC improved in the second half, with Kelvin Pam, Elijah Ezekiel and Rabiu Haruna making attacking runs, but they failed to convert their chances.
In spite of the chances created after the break, Stalwart could not score, as Galadima maintained control to secure a comfortable victory.
Galadima FC had earlier defeated Asteras Tripolis FC of Kubwa 3-1 in the Round of 32 to reach the Round of 16, while Stalwart FC advanced after beating NYSC FC 2-1 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Speaking after the match, Galadima FC’s head coach, Emeka Ayinba, described the encounter as challenging.
“We knew it would be a difficult game, but the players adhered to instructions. We will continue to improve as we await our next opponents in the quarter-finals,” he said.
Stalwart FC’s head coach, Dunga Samuel, said his team performed well despite the loss.
“We created chances but could not convert them. We started slowly and lost concentration at key moments. However, we will continue to work hard to improve,” he said.
The 2026 FCT President Federation Cup features 32 teams in the men’s category and two teams in the women’s category.
