Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has urged 206 foreign-trained newly inducted Nigerian nurses to apply knowledge acquired abroad to strengthen Nigeria’s health sector.

Mr Ganduje made the call at the 15th induction ceremony of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday.

The induction followed completion of the mandatory adaptation programme and successful passing of the NMCN professional examination. The process officially qualifies the foreign-trained nurses to practise professionally in Nigeria.

Mr Ganduje, who chaired the programme, said applying acquired skills at home was the only way overseas training could make a lasting impact on Nigeria’s healthcare system.

He said learning and practice must go hand in hand, stressing that education only becomes valuable when applied effectively in daily professional duties.

Mr Ganduje commended the NMCN for improving standards and ensuring Nigerian-trained and foreign-trained professionals contribute meaningfully to healthcare delivery.

He described the return of Nigerians trained abroad to practise at home as encouraging and beneficial to national development.

“We have our children studying abroad and returning to practise here. It is very encouraging,” Mr Ganduje said.
