Ghana appoints ex-Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz as new Black Stars coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the men’s senior national team, Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup starting in June.
In a statement on Monday, the federation said “The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association working with all key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.”
The appointment of Queiroz came almost two weeks after Otto Addo was sacked as gaffer of the Black Stars following Ghana’s poor performance during the recent international break, losing 5-1 and 2-1 to Austria and Germany respectively.
Queiroz boasts a wealth of coaching experience at international football level, with a career spanning across Portugal, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar and Oman as national teams head coach.
Also, the 73-year-old has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world including Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United (assistant manager), Real Madrid and New York Red Bulls.
Ghana is paired in Group L of the 2026 World Cup alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
