A Nigerian based in Ghana, Chukwudi Nwachukwu, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for trafficking his sister and nine other girls to Ghana for prostitution.

The Achimota Circuit Court slammed Mr Nwachukwu, 29, with 10 years’ imprisonment for trafficking 10 girls compelled to pay him returns from their sex work.

Presiding Judge Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, found Mr Nwachukwu guilty on charges of human trafficking.

Mr Nwachukwu was also ordered to pay GHC15,000 compensation to each of the 10 victims he trafficked to Ghana.

According to the court, the trafficked girls, worked as sex workers at Odorkor, a suburb of Accra, remitted GHC300 daily to Mr Nwachukwu.

Ghanaian police investigations also showed that Mr Nwachukwu forced the trafficked girls to take an oath and confiscated their travel documents to keep them under control, while extorting them.
