Ghana considers extradition of Russian blogger who secretly filmed sexual acts with Ghanaian women
The Ghanaian authorities are seeking Russia’s assistance to extradite a Russian blogger who used a secret camera to record his sexual adventures with some Ghanaian women without their consent.
The man described as a “pick-up artist” in his 30s filmed his sexual activities with the women and posted the explicit content on social media.
Ghana’s technology minister, Sam George, already invited the Russian foreign minister to discuss the extradition of the Russian posting nude content of the women online. The photos and videos were said to have been obtained through the secret camera attached to the Russian’s eyeglasses.
But Russia has a reputation of not allowing extradition of its citizens unless in extraordinary cases.
“I have invited the Russian ambassador in Ghana for a meeting,” BBC quoted Mr George as saying on Sunday. “The actions of the Russian citizen flout our cyber-security laws. I will officially indicate to the ambassador our official position.”
Mr George said the Ghana would use every means including a joint cooperation with Interpol to track down the suspect.
He said, “That gentleman will be looked for, we will activate every resource in our disposal working with Interpol. We will request the Russian authorities and that is why I have invited the Russian ambassador to work with our law enforcement.”
The penalty for violators of Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act 2020 who post explicit content of children or adults without their consent include a 25-year-jail term.
