The Ghanaian government announced it will replace citizens’ passports lost or damaged following devastating floods that killed at least 13 people in the capital, Accra, after days of intense rainfall.

In a memo dated July 3, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deepest sympathies to those affected by the devastating floods across several parts of the country.

The ministry acknowledged the catastrophic impact of the floods, including loss of life and property destruction, and extended sincere condolences to the families of those who died.

“The Ministry recognises that due to the floods, many Ghanaians may have either lost their passports or had them damaged.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to implement an expedited replacement of lost and damaged Ghanaian passports as a result of the floods,” it said.

The ministry urged individuals whose passports were lost or damaged during the flooding to contact it between Friday, July 3, and Friday, July 17, 2026, using its dedicated helpline: 055 936 8563.

It also asked affected persons to provide their names, dates of birth, gender, and phone numbers, as recorded in their lost or damaged passports, to facilitate the replacement process.

According to the ministry, all eligible lost or damaged passports will be replaced within one week.

The ministry said it stood in solidarity with all those affected and remained committed to supporting the government’s recovery efforts.

The announcement comes barely a week after severe flooding swept through several communities in Accra following torrential rainfall.
