A 45-year-old Ghanaian, Evans Nyarko, has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment in the United Kingdom after he was found guilty of raping a woman in her fifties in Milton Keynes.

In a statement by the Thames Valley Police, the incident happened in August 2024 when Mr Nyarko offered to assist the victim in ordering a taxi to take her home following a reported night out with friends and acquaintances.

Upon arriving at the victim’s home in Milton Keynes around midnight, Mr Nyarko decided to assist the woman, who was unable to walk on her own, into her apartment. The convict then followed her into the toilet, where he raped her.

“On 12 August 2024, shortly after midnight in the Conniburrow area of Milton Keynes, the victim, a woman aged in her fifties, had been enjoying a night out with friends and acquaintances. At the end of the evening, Nyarko offered to help the victim get home by taxi.

“After arriving at her home address shortly after midnight, the victim began feeling unwell and struggling to walk. Nyarko assisted her into the property before following her into a downstairs toilet and raping her,” the Thames Valley Police said.

It was gathered that the incident was reported to the police, which led to the arrest of Mr Nyarko, who was subsequently charged with one count of rape of a woman aged over 16.

“The incident was reported to Thames Valley Police in 2024 and Nyarko was arrested and charged on 28 August 2024,” the police noted.

Following a six-day trial in May this year, a jury convicted the defendant guilty of the rape charge before he was now sentenced to eight years prison term by the Aylesbury Crown Court.

Commenting on the verdict, Thames Valley Police’s investigating officer Detective Constable Lyndsay Gofton described Mr Nyarko’s actions as a breach of trust, stating that he failed to ensure the safety of the victim.

“This was a terrible abuse of trust by Nyarko, who took advantage of a woman who was vulnerable after a night out and relied on him to help her get home safely. The victim welcomed Nyarko’s assistance because he was known to her.

“Instead of ensuring that she was safe, he exploited her and committed a serious sexual offence. Nyarko denied what he had done throughout the investigation, forcing the victim to relive her ordeal and give evidence before a jury,” the detective said.

The detective added, “I would like to commend the victim for the courage and dignity she has shown throughout this investigation and court process. Her determination to come forward and support the prosecution has enabled a dangerous offender to be brought to justice.”
