Ghanaian lady Akua Akomea found dead in U.S. park hours after declared missing

A 23-year-old United States-based Ghanaian woman Akua Akomea was found dead in Virginia shortly after she was declared missing by the police seeking information about her whereabouts.
In a statement on May 7, the Prince William
County Police Department published a missing person alert, stating that Ms Akomea was reported unreachable around 12:45 p.m. on that day.
Police also stated that the victim recently raised concerns about her wellbeing but noted there was no reason to believe she had been abducted at the time.
“The Prince William County Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating Akua Akomea, age 23, of Manassas,” the statement read.
It added, “Akua was reported missing on May 7 at approximately 12:45 a.m. and may be operating a black 2022 Honda Civic with VA license plate: UBG-3720. Akua recently made concerning statements prompting concern for her wellbeing; however, she is believed to be missing under voluntary circumstances.
“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of this person is asked to contact Prince William County Police. Akua Akomea is described as a Black female, 23 years of age, 5’5″, 120lbs with black hair and brown eyes. Unknown clothing description.”
However, hours after the initial alert, the police department issued a new update, announcing that Ms Akomea was found dead in Manassas Park, an independent city located in Virginia.
“Akua Akomea, who was reported missing and endangered earlier this morning, was located deceased in Manassas Park. The investigation into Akua’s death is being handled by Manassas Park police,” the Prince William County police added.
Subsequently, the Manassas Park Police Department (MPPD) confirmed that it responded to a scene, where Ms Akomea was found unconscious at 9:11 a.m. on May 7 and officers later determined she had died.
The MPPD further said that their early assessment of the incident showed no evidence of foul play.
“On May 7, 2026, at approximately 9:11 am, the Manassas Park Police Department responded to Blooms Park regarding a report of an unconscious adult female,” the MPPD said in a statement.
“The responding officers located the adult female on the park trails who was determined to be deceased. This female had been reported earlier by the Prince William County Police Department as missing and endangered. At this time, it appears this is an isolated incident and no foul play is suspected,” the police added.
