GOC urges newly promoted senior officers to prioritise troops’ welfare
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Farouk Mijinyawa, has charged newly promoted senior officers to prioritise the welfare and mentoring of their subordinates.
The division spokesman, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya quoted Mr Mijinyawa as giving the advice in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
The GOC said that officers, who were newly promoted from the rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel, should ensure that their subordinates operated in a conducive atmosphere.
Mr Mijinyawa, who congratulated the newly promoted officers, described promotion as both a divine gift and a reward for dedication, discipline, and hard work.
“I commend your sacrifices and contributions to the Nigerian Army and urge you to remain committed to excellence while preparing for greater responsibilities ahead.
“I advise you to pay close attention to the welfare of your troops and their families because true leadership is reflected in how well officers are care for, and the mentoring of those under their command,” he said.
