First Lady Remi Tinubu says God is blessing Nigerians in response to Ramadan prayers by the Muslim faithful.

“We want to thank God for his blessings over our nation. When Ramadan started, who says God doesn’t hear the prayers of everyone?” Mrs Tinubu said when she hosted the wives of former presidents, governors, and ministers to Iftar in the State House over the weekend.

“We see that now things are turning around. And it’s happening in Ramadan month. We want to thank God for blessing us.”

Mrs Tinubu added that her husband, President Bola Tinubu, “will do all it takes to make the nation better, that even when we leave here, we will go back to a better Nigeria.”

Though economic hardship predated Mr Tinubu’s government, it assumed a frightening trajectory after Mr Tinubu scrapped fuel subsidies and floated the Nigerian naira.

The dual policies, which were applauded by experts and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as bold moves, have seen fuel prices shoot up from N145 to N670, while the Nigerian naira dips badly, trading for N1500 to the dollar in recent times.

In different market surveys, Peoples Gazette reported that food prices have spiked astronomically by almost 100 per cent since Mr Tinubu assumed office last year.

Before the Ramadan fast, protests against economic hardship and rising food prices rocked some cities, and citizens looted trucks conveying food items.

Last month, Mrs Tinubu admitted things are hard in the country but said Nigerians are still hosting parties when they could use the resources to help their neighbours who are crying of hunger.
