The Gombe State government has approved N200 million for infrastructure linked to the relocation of the Gombe Grain Market to the Dukku Road area.

The state commissioner for information, Moses Kyari, disclosed this on Wednesday in Gombe while briefing journalists on recent developments and decisions of the state government.

Mr Kyari said an additional N60 million had been approved by the local government to support the relocation, bringing the total funding to N260 million.

He said the funding was aimed at ensuring that the project was carried out while considering the interests and livelihoods of people affected by the relocation.

According to him, moving the grain market to Dukku Road is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve the management of commercial activities in the area.

Mr Kyari added that the relocation would create a more organised trading environment and provide the market with a more suitable location.

The commissioner said the exercise would also help preserve a historic mosque, which the government planned to retain as a state monument.

He explained that the decision was part of the administration’s wider efforts to promote orderly urban development, improve infrastructure, and create a better environment for commercial activities.

Mr Kyari said the approvals reflected Governor Muhammadu Inuwa-Yahaya’s commitment to addressing the state’s socio-economic and infrastructure needs.

The commissioner added that investments in market development, vocational training, and economic support were part of the government’s wider strategy to strengthen public institutions.

He said it would also improve services, support human capital development and promote sustainable development.

The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to policies and programmes that would have a direct and positive impact on residents.

He said the administration would continue to ensure that public funds were used responsibly to support meaningful development across the state.
