No fewer than 3,207 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members will participate in the 2023 general election in Gombe State.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Ada Imoni, said.

Some of the corps members were sensitised at the zonal office in Bolari community, Gombe on Wednesday.

Ms Imoni called on all the corps members participating in the election, to be neutral and apolitical as they carry out the national assignment.

She assured the corps members of their safety and welfare, saying that the scheme had liaised with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in that regard.

“The onus therefore, lies on you to conduct free, fair and credible elections,” she said.

Ms Imoni said officers of NYSC have been deployed to all states in the country to sensitise staff and corps members who will be on electoral duties.

Also speaking, Fadimatu Mohammed, Deputy Director, Corps Welfare and Health Services, NYSC Directorate Headquarters, said the essence of the sensitisation was to remind them of their responsibilities.

Ms Mohammed said the security and welfare of corps members would not be compromised before, during and after the general elections.

“You are expected to be in your regalia as corps members. You must also carry our identity card to avoid impersonation,” she added.

Ms Mohammed said “on no account should you engage in verbal or physical fight at the polling unit.

“Go out there and carry out the national assignment with all seriousness.”
