Gombe United thrash Lobi Stars 3-0 in first season win

After three winless games in the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Gombe United, on Monday, secured their first win of the season by defeating Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi 3-0.
The match day four fixtures was played at Pantami Stadium, Gombe.
The Makurdi-based team succumbed to pressure from Gombe United in the second half, following a tough and goalless battle in the first half.
Reacting at a post-match conference, Technical Adviser of Gombe United, Aliyu Zubairu, dedicated the victory to the fans of the club, who he said had been relentless in their supports for the team.
Zubairu said the win will boost the confidence level of the team, expressing optimism that his team would secure, at least, a point when they faced Katsina United in their next match.
On his part, the Assistant Coach of Lobi Stars, Eugine Agagbe, said in spite the loss, he was not disappointed at his boys, adding that the defeat would not affect his team’s morale ahead of their next match against Akwa United of Uyo.
“Any game that is played and gone, you let it go; you take home the mistakes so that you can improve and win the next game,” he said.
On their next match, Agagbe said that the game would be tough but added: “we will carry the day and get the three points.”
Substitute Yusuf Abdulazeez scored a brace for Gombe United in the 52nd and 74th minutes of the game, while Onyebuchi Onyeka scored an own goal in 58th minute.
