Gombe government has relaxed the restriction of movement imposed on the Billiri Local Government Area from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who disclosed this on Wednesday, further revealed that the curfew’s lifting would begin on Thursday (today).

Governor Yahaya’s meeting with stakeholders in the area was to ensure peace is restored to the community.

“As a governor, I swore to protect my people. I have no business being in power if I cannot protect my people. I can see that normalcy has been restored reasonably, and as a result of which we now held peace talks,” Mr. Yahaya explained.

He stated further, “The peace talk is between the Muslim and Christian communities, and you can see that they embraced one another. That is what we expect of brothers and sisters.

“What they did had really sorted out things, and I believe normalcy has begun to come back, and the request made for the curfew has been granted, so the eight hours will give them the chance to help in the healing process.”

The Chairman of the Billiri chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend John Joseph; Chief Imam of Billiri, Abubakar Abdullahi and the Billiri Local Government Chairman, Margaret Bitrus, who all condemned the attacks, sought forgiveness from the community.

Mr. Joseph promised to liaise with Muslims in the area to appeal for forgiveness from the victims of last Friday’s violence, while Mr. Abdullahi pleaded with the governor to compensate all those affected by the unfortunate incident.
