Samuel Adewale of the Christ Mercy Church says the celebration of Good Friday is not only to commemorate Jesus’ crucifixion but to emulate his sacrifice of dying for our sins.

Mr Adewale said on Friday in Ibadan that Christians must see the Good Friday celebration as the joy of salvation.

“It is the day we received grace, free grace from God,” he said.

Mr Adewale said the essence of the celebration was to love one another as Jesus loved us all.

“The followers of Christ must humble themselves as Jesus humbled himself to the point of death. We must learn to persevere with one another as Jesus sacrificed his life for our sins; he bore and carried the cross for us all.

“The bible says follow peace with all men, all men, even your enemies and your neighbours; this will ensure that, as good Christians, we must follow peace with others at all times.

“Some Christians who profess faith in their street, neighbourhood, and communities don’t relate with others. As a Christian, you must follow peace with Muslims, fellow Christians and everybody,” he said.

Mr Adewale reiterated that followers of Christ must have a forgiving spirit and learn how to genuinely forgive and forget.
