The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the African Union (AU) on their successful election.

The foundation expressed confidence that the new leadership would continue to champion democratic governance, economic integration, and conflict resolution at a critical moment of Africa’s development journey.

In a statement on Thursday in Yenagoa, the Executive Director of the foundation, Ann Iyonu, reiterated GJF’s commitment to working closely with the AU in addressing key regional and continental challenges.

She said, “As the continent faces evolving challenges and opportunities, we reaffirm our support for the AU’s vision of a united, prosperous, and peaceful Africa, as outlined in Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.

“We are confident that the new leadership will continue to champion democratic governance, economic integration, and conflict resolution—critical areas for Africa’s progress. The foundation remains committed to working closely with the African Union in addressing key regional and continental challenges, including strengthening democracy and electoral integrity to enhance political stability and governance.

“Promoting peacebuilding and conflict resolution through diplomatic mediation and preventive diplomacy. Supporting economic empowerment and youth engagement to drive inclusive development. Advancing regional integration and cooperation for Africa’s collective growth,” she said.

Ms Iyonu emphasised the foundation’s willingness to “collaborate with the AU leadership, regional bodies, and stakeholders to achieve the aspirations of Agenda 2063.

“The agenda includes fostering a future where Africa is self-reliant, peaceful, and globally competitive. Once again, we congratulate the newly elected chairperson, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, commissioners, and all members of the AU leadership and wish them success in their tenure.”
