Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has tasked parents, teachers and other stakeholders to come together to tackle bullying among children.

Mr Aiyedatiwa made the call at a programme to celebrate the 2025 National Children’s Day on Tuesday in Akure.

The celebration, tagged “Stand Up, Speak Up, Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” was organised and hosted by the Office of the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the governor.

He urged stakeholders to stand up against humiliating children, stating that bullying could stifle the dreams and aspirations of any child.

”All stakeholders must strive to protect every child and give them wings to fly toward their dreams.

”Also, children must support one another and not be silent in the face of bullying,” he said.

Mr Aiyedatiwa commended the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Seun Osemaye, for the interventions in the welfare of children and promised that his administration would continue to prioritise policies and programmes to impact children.

Similarly, the governor’s wife, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, urged parents to relate cordially with their children as friends.

Mrs Aiyedatiwa said, ”Bullying must be wholly discouraged even at homes, schools and other public places.”

In her remarks, the special adviser on women affairs explained that the theme of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration was apt and timely in tackling the critical issue of bullying in society.

Ms Osemaye added that stakeholders must take action against bullying among children and young adults.

Meanwhile, the state governor inaugurated the third Ondo State Children’s Parliament at the occasion.

Speaking on behalf of the young parliament, Olamide Poroye, commended the governor for resuscitating the platform after 12 years of being moribund.
