Gov Akeredolu urged to intervene in Ondo community kingship tussle

The kingmakers of the Igodan Lisa community, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, have appealed to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to intervene in the ongoing kingship tussle in the community.
Ayodeji Ogunga, secretary of the Igodan Lisa kingmakers (Ijama’s), made this appeal while speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Okitipupa.
Mr Ogunga alleged that there had been an unfortunate incident over the installation process of the Olu of Igodan Lisa, which has led to a series of brawls among some people acting against the law, custom and tradition.
The high chief warned that if such excesses were not checked, it could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the community
Mr Ogunga alleged that a particular aspirant and chief connived with some people to claim that he had been appointed as the Olu of Igodan Lisa in breach of the law, custom and tradition of the community.
He explained that installing a new king began immediately after the death of the community’s ruler, the late Oba Akinsola.
Mr Ogunga said six people indicated an interest in the stool, with three of them being Ijamas (Kingmakers)
“We believe the law, customs and tradition of the land, the law guiding chieftaincy titles, as well as that of the state government in proffering a quick process to the matter.
“We, therefore, call on Akeredolu to intervene in the process of installing a new king to stop some overzealous elements from doing what may cause a breakdown of law and order in the community,” Mr Ogunga said.
