Gov. Fintiri rejects Wike’s expulsion, warns it’ll deepen PDP crisis

Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has dissociated himself from the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his loyalists from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Fintiri, in a statement reacting to the expulsion, warned that the decision would further plunge the party into crisis.
“I wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the honourable minister of the Federal Capital Territory, @GovWike , from @OfficialPDPNig (PDP),” said Mr Fintiri.
He added, “I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.”
The party had suspended Mr Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, erstwhile party national secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others during its convention in Ibadan on Saturday.
It followed a motion by PDP’s former national vice chairman (south), Olabode George. The motion was seconded by the Bauchi party chairman, Samaila Burga, and unanimously supported by members at the convention.
“These people above have committed various breaches of the constitution by holding parallel congresses, canvassing votes for other parties, and sponsoring litigations against the party, among others,” he said.
However, the Adamawa governor faulted the expulsion, stating that it could result in the party’s disintegration.
He urged all party stakeholders to work towards healing the divisions within the party and to strive for unity and cohesion.
“I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration. I believe that peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party,” said Mr Fintiri.
Meanwhile, the party also expelled the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Wike-led faction, Mao Ohabunwa; the former national organising secretary, Umar Bature; Adeyemi Ajibade; Mohammed Abdulrahman; Austin Nwachukwu; Abraham Amah; George Turner; and Dan Orbih.
