The Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday adjourned sitting indefinitely.

The adjournment was announced during a plenary at the assembly quarters in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The development came a day after Governor Siminalayi Fubara sent another letter to the lawmakers, indicating his interest in re-presenting the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

In the letter, the governor fixed March 19 or any other day in the month to the lawmakers, in compliance with the February 28 Supreme Court judgment recognising the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers as assembly members, as well as their 24-hour deadline issued to him to present the budget.

With the indefinite adjournment of plenary, Mr Fubara’s second proposed attempt to present the budget to them is now uncertain.

During his first attempt on Wednesday to re-present the budget, Mr Fubara and his entourage, including some of his commissioners, were locked out of the assembly quarters in Port Harcourt.

However, the lawmakers claimed they only received the letter after Wednesday’s plenary, adding that the Tuesday, March 11 date on the letter gave them inadequate time to acknowledge it before inviting him to appear for the presentation.
