Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, on Tuesday pledged to re-introduce soft loans, houses, cars and motorcycles for primary and secondary school teachers across the state.

The governor made the pledge while inaugurating 12,779 sets of furniture for primary and secondary schools in the state.

The sets of furniture are for both teachers and students.

Speaking at the official inauguration ceremony in Birnin Kebbi, the governor said, “The government of Kebbi will continue to look into the plights of our teachers.

“In-Sha-Allah, by this year, 2026, we will come up with a package that teachers of primary and post-primary schools will benefit from.

“We shall soon come up with a soft loan package for teachers; this will cover car loans, motorcycle loans and house loans, among others. This is with a view to giving our teachers a sense of belonging.”

The governor assured that the era of treating classroom teachers as second-class citizens was over.

Speaking about the furniture, Mr Idris said the gesture was part of the state government’s obligation to ensure that both the students and teachers have adequate furniture in their classrooms.

He pledged the commitment of his administration to continue to provide a conducive atmosphere for both teaching and learning.

Apart from the construction and renovation of different primary and post-primary schools across Kebbi State, the governor said the gesture was in line with an urgent solution to ensure that classes and offices were well equipped.

“I want to assure the good people of Kebbi that this is just the beginning; we will continue to provide this kind of furniture for both teachers and students,” he stated.

The governor directed that the furniture be shared 50-50 between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Universal Basic Education.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Halima Bande, expressed happiness for what she described as a holistic commitment to education.

Thanking the governor for what he had been doing for education, the commissioner said they were not surprised with “what you have been doing for education because you were a teacher. We are happy for the projects you have been executing, not only for education but across all sectors of the economy.”
