Oyo governor Seyi Makinde has deployed 200 Amotekun operatives to Ibarapa Local Government Area in a bid to end incessant kidnapping and general insecurity in the community.

Announcing the development in a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Makinde said that the mission of the Western Nigeria Security Network codename Amotekun is to rid the forest of criminals.

“These operatives will launch missions to rid the forests of criminals,” Mr. Makinde in the statement said.  “They will be presenting daily reports of their activities to me in the short run and periodic reports in the long run.”

The decision to deploy the security operatives to the communities was reached after the state  government met with representatives of Igangan, Ibarapa communities and newly appointed Oyo police commissioner, Ngozi Onadeko.

According to Mr. Makinde, a town hall meeting and community outreaches consisting of residents and security agencies will be held subsequently to discuss issues of immediate concerns and dialogue on how to improve community policing.

The state government’s move comes amid tension generated by the 7 days ultimatum issued by Sunday Adeyemo alias Igboho, to Fulanis to vacate the communities believed to be the mainstay of kidnapping and banditry in the state.

Upon the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum, the home of the leader of the Fulanis in the community was burnt down.

In the early hours of Tuesday, one of  the homes of Mr. Adeyemo was razed by unidentified hoodlums.

While the police are yet to unravel the perpetrators of the attack, claims have been made that the attack is in retaliation for the attack on the home of the Fulanis in Igboho community.
