Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to deploy 50 electric buses across the state as part of efforts to reduce transportation costs and improve mobility for residents.

Mr Makinde disclosed this on Wednesday in Ibadan during the presentation of the first and second quarter budget performance reports, organised by the state Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

Mr Makinde, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde, said the buses would operate on intra-city routes and also ease transportation between local governments in the state.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at bringing down the cost of transportation and making movement easier and cheaper for the people.

He added that the electric buses were part of broader people-oriented projects designed to have a direct impact on citizens.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and sustainable development.

He noted that the government was closely monitoring revenue and expenditure to ensure priority sectors get additional funding before the end of the year.

According to him, the 2026 budget framework targets meeting revenue goals while capping expenditure at 77.5 per cent, and will focus on projects that have high multiplier effects on the economy.

Mr Makinde noted that projects nominated by residents during town hall meetings were already being implemented across the state.

He urged residents to keep supporting government policies and assured them that a high-level committee had been set up to address concerns raised during the budget performance review.
