Governor Umar Namadi has assented to a bill establishing a Ministry for Livestock Development to boost agricultural productivity, innovation, and economic growth in Jigawa.

A statement signed by his chief press secretary, Hamisu Gumel, disclosed that the governor gave his assent on Tuesday.

The statement added that the executive order was a strategic move, designed to harness Jigawa’s giant potential in the livestock sector. The governor described the new ministry as “quite an important ministry”.

“He said that Jigawa has one of the largest livestock markets in Africa.

“With our activities in the livestock sector, the establishment of this ministry is a welcome development,” the statement added.

According to the statement, Mr Namadi also signed the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Service Law 2025.

The law establishes an agency to drive the state’s agricultural industrialisation agenda.

The statement explained that the agency will also serve as a model, not only in Jigawa and northern Nigeria but in the country as a whole.

It emphasised that the initiatives were part of the administration’s vision to transform agriculture from a subsistence venture into an industrialised sector.

“We are optimistic that it will create more jobs, boost food security, and strengthen Jigawa’s economy,” the governor said.

Mr Namadi was also reported to have appreciated the State Executive Council for approving the establishment of the two institutions and expressed confidence that they would fulfill their mandates.
