Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, on Friday, dedicated his Supreme Court victory to the people of Delta.
The governor made the declaration at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, after the judgement was delivered.
Mr Oborevwori, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contested the March 18, 2023, governorship election against Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), among others in Delta.
He said that God was not a man who could lie, adding that God alone delivered him from all the 38 pre-election and post-election cases instituted against him during the electioneering period.
He said, “I pledged to serve God every time, and whenever I get victory, I come to thank God for the victory.
“For the Lord has redeemed me and glorified Delta state. This victory is not about me but about the people of Delta.
“I am the only governor that had 38 cases during the governorship race and I won all the cases”.
He appreciated all the support from the people of the state, the legal team, the party and all stakeholders during the trying period.
The governor pledged his resolve to ensure that the state gets more in line with his M.O.R.E. Agenda mantra.
He said, “I want to thank and commend our team of lawyers and the entire judiciary, which has remained the hope of the common man.
“My deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme and I will be servant leaders to all. This victory is for the people of Delta”.
The governor urged his opponents — Mr Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Ken Pela of the Labour Party (LP) — to join hands with him to build the state.
On his part, Pastor Cyril Okoye, state coordinator on religious matters, in his exhortation, said that the Supreme Court victory was a product of the grace of God.
According to him, the grace of God is upon the governor and sustained him through the challenging times and to victory.
He prayed God to sustain Mr Oborevwori’s administration.
Dignitaries that attended the thanksgiving include the former governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife Edith, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Emmomotimi Guwor, state PDP chairman, Kingsley Esiso and commissioners.
