Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti on Thursday launched the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Appeal Fund, urging Nigerians to honour the sacrifices of fallen heroes.

During the launch at the Lady Jibowu Hall, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti, he said the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the bravery and selflessness of members of the armed forces.

The governor, represented by the secretary to the state government, Habibat Adubiaro, urged Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and love, stressing that security was a collective responsibility.

He said the Ekiti government had prioritised security through collaboration with other South-West states, particularly through the Amotekun Corps, to build a coordinated, technology-driven, and community-based security architecture.

Mr Oyebanji commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to ensure peace and stability across the country.

The governor donated N5 million to kick-start the appeal fund and explained that proceeds from the emblem launch would be used to support veterans, their widows, and serving personnel.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of serving and retired military personnel through collaboration with the Nigerian Legion and other relevant bodies to improve support systems and empowerment programmes.

Earlier, the head of service, Folakemi Olomojobi, described the event as a platform to remember and honour military personnel who had served the nation through wars and peacekeeping missions.

She commended Mr Oyebanji for promoting peace, security, and good governance in the state and applauded his commitment to the welfare of serving and retired security personnel.

Also speaking, the chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Ekiti, Atoki Abdurazak, thanked the governor for his support of the legion and pledged the continued loyalty of its members.
