Governor Uba Sani has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in the state to be catalysts of progress by making lasting contributions to their host communities.

Mr Sani gave the charge on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ stream I orientation course held at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Kaduna.

Mr Sani said the three-week orientation course equipped corps members with discipline, resilience and a deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s unity in diversity. He, therefore, urged them to see every community as an opportunity to create positive change rather than merely a place for compulsory national service.

Mr Sani encouraged them to demonstrate excellence whether serving in classrooms, hospitals, farms, offices or other places of primary assignment. According to him, corps members should initiate projects that would leave their host communities better than they found them.

Mr Sani reaffirmed the Kaduna state government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC scheme through sustained collaboration with security agencies and host communities. He assured corps members that his administration would continue prioritising their welfare and security throughout their service year.

The governor also called on public- and private-sector employers to mentor corps members and assign them meaningful responsibilities. He said investing in young people was an investment in Kaduna State’s future and Nigeria’s development.

Mr Sani commended the corps members for participating in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. He urged them to complete the post-camp training and use the acquired skills to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour.

The governor further advised them to serve with courage, integrity, compassion and innovation while remaining worthy ambassadors of Kaduna and Nigeria.

The NYSC coordinator in Kaduna, Efeke Dadaza, said the corps members had undergone paramilitary drills, entrepreneurship training and lectures on national unity. She described them as mentally, physically, and professionally prepared for their primary assignments across the state.

Ms Dadaza urged the corps members to integrate peacefully with their host communities and undertake impactful community development service projects. She also encouraged them to continue participating in the SAED programme to enhance their entrepreneurial skills and create employment opportunities.

The NYSC official commended the Kaduna State government for supporting corps members’ welfare and maintaining a peaceful environment throughout the orientation course.

She, however, appealed to the governor to renovate damaged camp buildings and provide additional bunk beds, mattresses and improved feeding.

Ms Dadaza also sought enhanced welfare packages for corps members and the establishment of a permanent NYSC orientation camp in Kaduna.
