Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on the mass to give more attention to coverage of government activities to increase public awareness and understanding of government actions.

Mr Sanwo-Olu made the call at a courtesy visit to him by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council, led by the chairman, Adeleye Ajayi.

The event took place at Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday.

Mr Sanwo-Olu was represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

According to him, more youths and other citizens need to know more about programmes and initiatives being undertaken by governments.

He said that the initiatives were aimed at impacting the lives of the citizens.

The governor listed initiatives undertaken by his administration to include skill acquisition programmes and training of farming.

“Aside from the Ounjè Eko Discount Market initiative to alleviate the impact of rising food prices, we have the Ilere Eko, farmers programmes, among others.

“The media should showcase these initiatives to the youth so that they plug into it and the various opportunities to better their lives,” he said.

In his remarks, Mr Ajayi commended the governor for the achievements in the last five years, particularly in traffic management, healthcare delivery, education and security.

The NUJ chairman expressed satisfaction at the governor’s Themes Plus Agenda and the successful implementation, including the inauguration of the Red and Blue rail lines, high-capacity ferries and new jetties.

He also praised the governor’s efforts in environmental regeneration, education technology, and social inclusion.

Mr Ajayi sought the support of the Lagos State government for the NUJ council.

He said, “We also request the inclusion of NUJ members in the housing scheme of the state government. Together, we are going to accomplish more for the betterment of the lives of the people of Lagos State.”
