Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has launched the state’s new public service rule to guide workers in the discharge of their duties.
Mr Sule also announced an undisclosed amount as an end-of-year bonus for state civil servants at the Nasarawa State Civil Service Week on Tuesday in Lafia.
The governor, however, said the state government would have announced a 13th-month salary as a bonus for workers, but for the local government areas that were not doing so well, to pay the same amount.
“So, because of that, we will ask the LGAs to go and do their due process and find out how much they saved and tell me what percentage they can pay.
“I don’t want to go ahead and say I’m paying 13 months, and LGAs will say they can only pay 30 to 40 per cent,” he said.
Mr Sule said the civil service week had offered another opportunity to appraise the civil service of Nasarawa State as not just a workforce but a living institution made up of people committed to excellence, integrity, and innovation.
The governor said the theme of the civil service week, “Repositioning the Civil Service for a Digital Aid Production Future,” is well conceived at a time when the government is committed to making digital governance a key priority.
“The civil service must evolve into a smart, technology-driven, and data-informed organisation capable of responding swiftly and effectively to the needs of the good people of Nasarawa State.
“This is why we are laying the foundation for a paperless, efficient, and transparent public administration through the ongoing digitalisation of human resource systems, payroll management, and record-keeping to build a public service that is not only productive but also future-ready,” he said.
Mr Sule applauded the All Progressives Congress (APC) government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu for the economic reforms that enabled the state to execute projects without borrowing.
He also used the occasion to reward some workers for their punctuality and dedicated service. Those rewarded include Comfort David, who received N1 million; Amina Idris, N500,000; and Chinasa Azubini, N500,000.
Earlier, Abigail Waya, Nasarawa State head of civil service, commended the governor for his support of workers.
Ms Waya tasked the workers to be more dedicated and punctual, urging them to obtain the new public service rule to guide them in discharging their duties.
