A lawmaker representing Nasarawa West on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the upper legislative chamber, Senator Aliyu Wadada, has cautioned his supporters against unguided utterances and divisive sentiments ahead of the party primaries for the 2027 general election.

Mr Wadada made the call at a press conference on Sunday in Lafia.

The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, had earlier announced Mr Wadada as his preferred governorship aspirant and urged party leaders and supporters to ensure he secured the APC ticket for the 2027 election.

The senator warned his supporters not to attack his fellow aspirants, their supporters, or party leaders, physically, in the media, or on social media over differences in political interests.

He stressed that the next election cycle must be driven by ideas rather than insults, urging stakeholders to rise above primordial sentiments.

He stated, “I appeal to all my supporters across Nasarawa State to avoid unguided utterances that may overheat the polity. We must not campaign based on religion, ethnicity or personal attacks. Let us focus on policies, competence and the future of our state.”

Mr Wadada noted that the state had recorded progress under past administrations, including those of Abdullahi Adamu, Aliyu Akwe-Doma, Umaru Al-Makura, and the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Sule.

He said that sustaining such progress would require maturity and responsible conduct from political actors.

The lawmaker pledged that his campaign, when formally declared, would be anchored on his legislative record and focus on economic development, youth employment, agriculture and security.

He commended Mr Sule for his leadership and reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, stressing the need for unity within the party ahead of the elections.

Mr Wadada also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders and the media, particularly the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), to promote peaceful and responsible electioneering.

He urged stakeholders, including party leaders, aspirants, supporters and citizens, to prioritise the collective interest of the state above personal or sectional considerations.
