Governor Abba Yusuf on Thursday visited Rimin Zakara village in Ungogo LGA to condole with the families affected by the recent demolition exercise that resulted in three deaths and several injuries.

This was disclosed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Thursday.

Mr Yusuf met with the bereaved families and offered the state government’s sympathies.

He also announced plans to construct a new Juma’at Mosque in the area as a lasting charity dedicated to the three deceased individuals.

Mr Yusuf unveiled a comprehensive development plan for the community, which includes connecting it to the electricity grid and constructing solar-powered boreholes.

Other projects to be sited in the village include a primary healthcare centre and the development of a feeder road to improve transportation.

The governor also issued a stern warning to security forces against using live ammunition on innocent citizens and established an investigative committee to uncover the causes of the tragedy.

Mr Yusuf also directed Bayero University to suspend the demolition exercise and assured the community of his commitment to resolving the over 40-year-old land dispute between Rimin Zakara and the institution.

The governor summoned the university’s management to his office and directed them to halt the demolition exercise.

Mr Yusuf has also assured the Rimin Zakara community of his commitment to resolving the long-standing land dispute between the community and Bayero University. This 40-year-old issue has been a significant source of tension.
