Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has directed emirs in the state to uphold the annual durbar traditional horse riding festivals, aiming to preserve and promote Kano’s rich cultural heritage.
This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Saturday.
Mr Yusuf gave the directive at the opening of Kanfest (Kalankuwa) 2025, celebrating Kano’s cultural diversity, empowering creatives, engaging youths and women, as well as fostering global partnerships placing Kano on the world’s cultural map.
Mr Yusuf pledged the Kano State government’s full support to the Emirates to ensure that the centuries-old horsemanship tradition was preserved, strengthened and showcased globally.
The governor reiterated his unwavering commitment to investing in arts, culture and tourism for social cohesion, youth engagement and economic diversification.
The Emir of Kano and chairman of Kano State Emirate Council, Muhammadu Sanusi II, appreciated Mr Yusuf’s foresight in restoring Kano people’s valuable traditions.
The three-day Kanfest featured cultural exhibitions, local cuisines, performances, games, drama, crafts, fabrics, pottery and paper presentations.
