Gov. Yusuf inaugurates upgraded Kano paediatric hospital

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State inaugurated the renovated 86-bed capacity Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital at Kofar Kudu in Kano Municipal Local Government Area on Sunday.
The hospital was earlier shut down and sold by the previous administration in the state but was revoked by Mr Yusuf when he assumed duties.
The governor reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to accord priority to the health sector for the health and well-being of the people.
He said the renovation and restoration of the hospital to a full-fledged government-owned hospital were part of his campaign promises.
The paediatric hospital, established in 1990 with 86 beds, treats more than 5,000 patients from Kano State and beyond daily.
Mr Yusuf expressed dismay that the previous administration shut down the hospital and sold the structure to an individual to convert it into a shopping complex.
“We have equipped the hospital with state-of-the-art equipment to provide qualitative healthcare delivery for our people.
“We are operating a responsible government geared towards providing basic infrastructure that will enhance the well-being of our people, irrespective of political differences,’’ the governor said.
Mr Yusuf warned that his administration would not tolerate abuse of office by medical personnel deployed to manage the facility.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Labaran Yusuf, applauded the foresight and commitment of Mr Yusuf for ensuring that the facility was restored.
In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, urged public members to use the facility judiciously and called on parents to immunise their children.
